Last Tuesday evening, with some short notice, a wonderful group from St Pat’s and the wider Irish community turned up at Muddy Murphy’s to welcome a very special visitor to Singapore — Fergal Guihen, aka @rossie_to_aussie.
Fergal is currently cycling from Roscommon all the way to Sydney, raising funds for two incredibly important causes back home: the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and NorthWest STOP, a suicide prevention service. Fergal left Roscommon in March 2024 and is almost 500 days on the road now. With some incredible stories from his journey.
Though his stop in Singapore was brief — just two nights before setting off for Jakarta on Wednesday morning — Fergal made time for a pint, a chat, and a whole lot of inspiration. His love for life, deep appreciation for the kindness of strangers, and captivating stories from the road left a lasting impression on us all. One thing Fergal spoke about time and time again is the kindness of strangers, everywhere he went. And it's heartwarming to hear how supportive all the Irish communities have been.
To say Fergal is remarkable is an understatement. He’s warm, humble, and has a genuine love of life and its journey that’s impossible to miss. Listening to him share stories from his travels — the ups, the downs, the unforgettable moments — reminded us of the power of connection and the importance of supporting each other across borders.
🎥 Here’s a great reel from RTE News that perfectly captures Fergal's journey: Watch here 🎧 And here's this fantastic podcast episode to hear more from Fergal himself: Any Given Runday – Episode #253
